decorative signage

The active design (nudge) is an innovative approach that uses visual and graphic elements to subtly influence individual behavior in public spaces.

By incorporating patterns, colors, and visual cues, active design encourages citizens to adopt more positive behaviors.

  • Engaging in physical activity;
  • Discovering new places;
  • A more welcoming urban environment.

This method is based on behavioral psychology and seeks to guide individuals toward beneficial choices without imposing strict rules, but by influencing their perception of space.

Current trends related to signage

Active design

This innovative approach uses visual and graphic elements to subtly influence individual behavior in public spaces. By incorporating patterns, colors, and visual cues, active design encourages citizens to adopt more positive behaviors. For example, engaging in physical activity or discovering new places. This method is based on behavioral psychology and seeks to guide individuals toward beneficial choices without imposing strict rules, but by influencing their perception of space.

Urban Wayfinding and Paths

Artistic signage offers a unique tourist experience by making the city more accessible and immersive. By using visual elements like colored lines, murals, or ground markings, cities can guide visitors through paths that highlight local heritage. These markers encourage tourists to discover often overlooked sites and explore cultural, historical, or artistic places beyond typical tourist areas. This approach makes exploration more interactive and memorable, while creating a fun and engaging experience.

Signage and Health

This signage is an effective way to combat inactivity in the city by encouraging physical activity. By adding graphic markers, colorful patterns, or ground markings, walking, running, or fitness routes become more attractive and motivating. These visual elements transform public spaces into accessible exercise areas, encouraging city dwellers to adopt more active behaviors. Nudges thus promote regular physical activity by making the urban environment dynamic and stimulating.

Signage and Road Safety

Nudges can improve road safety by using ground paint to mark pedestrian crossings, bike lanes, as well as meeting areas, city centers, or school zones. These visual markings enhance visibility and encourage drivers to slow down, especially in sensitive areas. By making pedestrian and cycling zones more visible, active design helps make travel safer, thus promoting safer traffic for pedestrians, cyclists, and children.

The Various Impacts of Artistic Signage

  • Design more impactful wayfinding elements.
  • Promote a fun stroll.
  • Strengthen the identity of the place.
  • Create meeting points and identifiable landmarks.
  • Influence users in their journey and behavior.
  • Secure an area or passage by drawing attention (especially for parking lots).
  • Poetically invite new uses by guiding user flow, offering an aesthetic, cultural, and vibrant experience.

Hand-Painted Signage

Paint and color have great power, especially when it comes to signage. Depending on the audience and location, we design and create unique signage. Furthermore, our expertise allows us to paint on various surfaces:

  • For murals on interior walls or on exterior walls
  • From floor to ceiling, including walls
  • On all materials: plasterboard, concrete, brick, asphalt, synthetic...

Signboards

Next, we also create hand-painted signboards. For example, we regularly paint vintage-style logos and lettering. Generally, for these types of projects, we are only responsible for the execution. However, we sometimes design the signboard.

Furthermore, we can work on any surface condition. Indeed, we have craftsmen capable of renovating the signboard and the facade.

Metal Shutters

Similarly, we also paint metal shutters that protect commercial premises. This helps increase the visibility of the location and identify it.

Moreover, this helps prevent the shutter from being vandalized. Indeed, once a metal shutter is painted, it is rarely covered up. Another advantage is that painting a metal shutter is quick and inexpensive. Generally, our clients have a limited budget for this, but we have tailored offers to propose.

Nudges

Nudge is an English term that literally means "a gentle push" or "an elbow prod." It's used to describe visual elements that encourage a certain behavior without explicitly stating it. A classic example is the fly drawn in airport urinals, which encourages users to aim better and improves cleanliness. At PALM, we paint large-format nudges.

Signage for various client types

First of all, we work exclusively for professional clients. For example, we work for:

  • Businesses, from startups to large corporations.
  • Landlords and real estate professionals.
  • Architectural firms, decorators, and space planners.
  • Retailers, restaurateurs, and hoteliers.
